The Equity Talks webinar series provides guidance and support to educators everywhere who strive to bring equity and excellence to their schools and districts.

Since the series began in Spring 2020, Equity Talks has attracted thousands of global education leaders and resulted in many powerful new ideas and research to cultivate equity and excellence in schools.

ALAS Women Superintendent Policy Leadership Academy

About the WSPLA

Presented by ALAS, Discovery Education, and Voice4Equity, the Women Superintendents Policy Leadership Academy (WSPLA) is designed for female leaders at the superintendent or Cabinet level that want to further develop their policy leadership knowledge and voice, so they are empowered to lead boldly, disrupt systemic bias, and improve education access for all students, particularly those historically marginalized.

Facilitated by Dr. Christina Kishimoto, former state superintendent of Hawaii and CEO of Voice4Equity, this five-session, one-semester program uses an academy design to ensure focused participation by all participants.

Who is eligible:

  • Open to all women education leaders at the superintendent or Cabinet level – membership with ALAS is not required.

Now Accepting Leaders for the Fall 2022 Cohort

Through a series of five, interactive sessions, participants will explore current challenges around delivering an equity agenda that meets the learning needs of all students, particularly those historically marginalized.

Topics and dates for the 2022 Fall Cohort include:

  • Policy Ecosystem: Saturday, September 24
  • Policy Knowledge: Wednesday, October 5 (in-person at the 19th Annual National ALAS Education Summit in Puerto Rico) 
  • Policy Voice: Saturday, October 22
  • Policy Network: Saturday, November 19
  • Policy Leverage: Saturday, December 10

High School Girls Policy Network

About the HS Girls Policy Network

Discovery Education and Voice4Equity have partnered to deliver The High School Girls Policy Network, a unique leadership development program for high school girls focused on expression and empowerment.

This is a wonderful opportunity for student leaders from urban districts across the country who want to develop their civic voice on issues affecting their school communities, and we would be honored to have representation from your district.

Who is eligible:

  • Female students in their junior or senior year of high school
  • Student must be available and committed to attend all four sessions
  • Student should have strong collaboration skills but be a novice to leadership

Now Accepting Students for the Fall & Spring Cohorts

District and school leaders can nominate up to two students for the 2022-2023 school year.

  • September 21, 2022 – An Equity Mindset 
  • October 19, 2022 – The Power of Student Voice 
  • November 16, 2022 – Understand Power Structures 
  • December 14, 2022 – Framing our Policies for Action 
Spring Session Dates
